CHEK (CH) TV CAPTURES INTERNATIONAL AWARDS IN PROMOTION & DESIGN CHEK (Now CH) TVs promotion and design were honored with three Gold and three Silver at the Promax and BDA (Broadcast Designers Assoc.) gala awards ceremonies held in Toronto. CHEK TVs Cops For Cancer Campaign received a Gold Promax Award for special projects. Previously, CHEK TV news anchor Hudson Mack and sports personality Alex Robertson voluntarily had their heads shaved during the 5:30 newscast in support of Cops For Cancer in Victoria. Two-hundred and thirty-two Greater Victoria police officers and friends shaved their heads to raise money for research into childhood cancer. Peter S. Dawson, President of the Victoria branch of the Canadian Cancer Society told the station, "You brought a whole new magnitude to the project. Truly a wonderful initiative." With the Victoria stations help, the Cops For Cancer 97 campaign raised over $130,000, well over the $40,000 target. CHEK TV won two more Gold Awards. One for UNO, a promotion of a festival of solo performers, and another for the stations holiday IDs. The animated Buckle Up - Xmas & Halloween Sucks designed by CHEK TVs Dave Lackmanec also won Silver in BDA. Two Silver Awards were also presented to CHEK TV, one for a print ad "News & More News", and another for the Legends Fastball campaign, the creative which was done by Broughton Communications Group, Victoria. BDA and Promax International Gold Medallion Awards are presented each year to companies and individuals, whose work is judged by a panel of international promotion and marketing professionals, for creative excellence in promotion, marketing and design in the electronic media. In past years there were over 4,000 entries in 111 separate categories. The awards are recognized as the industrys highest accolade for creative professionals in television, radio, cable and program distribution worldwide. |
