The Issue:

CH TV's  CEP Local 815m (media) have been in a state of rapid growth and change for many  years.  It has been a very stressful time for all of us.  Over the last 13 years we have seen many staff leave in one way or another.  Over the past 9 years downsizing by attrition, buy-out and layoff  has reduced staff levels by over 50 percent. Technology has seen many efficiencies introduced on the broadcasting scene.  Automation being one of them.
We work for a VERY successful and large corporation (Global Communications), in  one of their most successful divisions known as CH TV. In the face of  market and technology forces CH / BCTV remains the apple of the CanWest Global  broadcast group. We are a big part of that success and want to share in it's profitability.  There are many more important issues beyond the money.  One being the future of our employment at CH.   Over the last 10 years we have lost many talented, irreplaceable people  from our staff.  Many of us have been with CHEK (Now CH TV) for over 30 years.  Some for over 35 years and there are many who work with us part-time who are sometimes dealt with unfairly.
It  has become necessary for the employees of CHEK TV to convince management of our value in making CanWest Global strong.  CEP LOCAL 815-M is looking to maintain job security and limit the transfer of jobs off the Island, protect our part time workers and share in the success of the company we’ve helped to build.
